Mindwind Redux
I went through the Mindwind, Soulfire manuscript and tweaked the ending again. For some reason, the end is the most problematic part of that story, while Timeweavers had more of a midlife crisis.

I'm also trying to fix up Dread Drama, my 20k piece, and actually seeing some changes that would make it more like a story rather than a string of events. I may finally have learned to implement what I learned in Taos. Yay!

Soon, I sense that I'll want to plunge into a new project. Perhaps I'll pick up Playing the Goddess (the sequel to Mindwind) again.

Or maybe something new. I've composed a little piece on my viola, which I call "Flight of the Silverlance." I feel that it needs to become a story. Perhaps when I finish the rest of the lyrics I'll have an inkling what it's about...

Yay, indeed. Congratulations on feeling good about the Dread Drama changes.

Love the idea of composing a musical piece and letting story ideas come to you that way.

Ends are the only parts of my novels that I'm happy with. If all I had to do was write a great final chapter and tell the reader "you figure out how you got here" I'd be in good shape.

If you've got ends mastered you're almost there. Ends are the most important thing for reader satisfaction, I think. Beginnings are also an issue, but I think some of the stress on snappy beginnings these days is driven by marketing concerns rather than artistic considerations.

I was just thinking today what an exceptional workshop Taos was.

The funny thing is, I had a special feeling about TT the moment I read about it. I was never tempted by Clarion or Odyssey, but I thought there might be something wonderful about writing up on a mountain.

Well six weeks would kill me! I was hesitant about Taos, but now I can't say enough good things about it. It was a terrific experience all the way around.
